What you make today for your tomorrow?
There is this recite from the Holy book of Quran that stroke me hard this morning when I was driving to work. It is: what did you offer for your tomorrow? This encourages us to think more long term rather than short term.
If we look at the different areas of our lives like the career, family, finance, lifestyle, health, spirituality, contribution toward society and other areas, it is interesting to incorporate this question. What value you offered for your future work? What investments you keep for your financial future? What seeds are you planting in your kids’ minds? What healthy habits and routines you practice for a healthier person tomorrow? These encourage us to think future-oriented rather than just living for the sake of living and surviving the day to day experiences.
There are some environmental effects that sometimes blind us from getting the big picture. For instance the screen addiction, the rush, the quick to judge, the accepting whatever is in front of you, the struggle to move on, the addiction to stay in the past and also the traumatized effect due to what happened and how we internalized it. All these in many cases cause us to stay short term and forget our tomorrow.
What is it about our tomorrow? How we would like our future life to look like? Do we even have a vision of our future self? Can we aspire to create the best version of our future? Can we get unstuck and freely desire the best for ourselves? Sometimes our addiction to the past can slow us down and make us mentally and emotionally tired to see what the future could possibly hold for us.
I personally think this question creates a spark in the mind. No matter where you are in life, what you do and what happened to you, there is always hope. A hope for a better future if we just pay attention, give it a second thought, do our best and be our best.
You can’t control the past. It happened. You can’t reverse it. But you have your today and tomorrow. What are you doing? What do you prepare for? What are your contributions? How do you serve the humanity? What difference are you willing to make in the human mind? What mental and emotional shift are you ready to cause? Where you want to take yourself and your people to? Which place? Which destination? Which desired outcome? Those are in your direct control if you choose to focus there.
At the end, don’t give up. Don’t settle. Don’t accept whatever is in front of you. You can make a change. You can offer a contribution. You can present your best self in the best way. Use your creativity and your imagination and see your life change and transform.
