My Ramadhan Routine

When you enter the special time of the year which is Ramadhan, I like to mentally prepare the kind of activities that would enrich and fill up my body, mind and soul. For those who are not familiar with Ramadhan, it is the Holy month where we perform the fasting (no food or drink) from fajir to maghrib time. It is not just no eating or drinking but also we pay extra attention to our daily actions, deeds and conversations. We avoid talking negatively about people or situations. We also seek to be closer and attuned to worshiping, reading the dua’a, giving away charity and doing the acts that bring you closer to Allah.

So with the starting of Ramadhan, here are some of the activities that happen throughout the day.

At 3.45 am, we wake up to have our suhoor meal. Normally it is rice, chicken curry, yogurt and fruit. However sometimes we have the left over meal from the iftaar meal.

After the suhoor meal, we pray the night prayer and read few pages of the Holy book of Quran.

Then at 5.10 am, we pray the fajir prayer. The time here is very short so immediately after fajir prayer, we go ahead with our morning routine and preparing to drop kids at schools and go to work.

The work duty is from 7.30 am to 1.00 pm. After the work duty, we go back home, pray dhuhur, do iftaar meal prepping and do some home cleaning and laundry. There is a short nap here too before the aser prayer.

Around 4.00 pm, we pray aser prayer and do the iftaar cooking. While cooking, we listen to YouTube episodes of the stories of Allah’s messengers and reflections on life and living in our modern world.

At 6.15 pm, we would shortly break our fast with dates, laban, fruits and few snacks. After that we pray maghrib prayer and then come back to continue having our iftaar meal.

Later we prepare for isha’a and tarawih prayer. Normally we do the prayer at home. But this year we might do some of them in the masjid near by home.

After the isha’a and tarawih prayers, I utilize 30 minutes to exercise by doing fast walking around the neighbourhood.

We conclude the day with kids showering and preparing for the second day.

It is soothing and comforting to get the chance to experience Ramadhan again this year. After I dropped the kids to schools today, I saw the sun rising. It was surprisingly a different sun rise. Normally when the sun rises, you would see the sun rays. But today it didn’t. It was just full, circle, no sun rays and still yellow. It sent a feeling of acceptance, warmth, love and incredible peace.

I pray for every Muslim human being to be well, safe, loved, blessed and accepted. And I hope our prayers and wishes be accepted and received with all our whole hearted intentions.
