The power of your imagination
Imagination is an act performed by the mind. It often comes from the core of your heart including your wishes and desires.
The problem is we forget or neglect this power because of the side effects from the environment and culture. For example, you went to schools and colleges and got conditioned to believe that you just need to follow what you are being told to do. That suppressed your imagination and now you can’t even dare to imagine the kind of meaningful and contributional work you can offer.
Observing this from a distance, we actually don’t operate from the mind only. We have got our bodies, hearts and spirits as well. Using all of them can enable you to get to know your deep wishes and desires and tap into your mental imagination faculty.
Let me show you a scenarios how you could do this: You start meditating daily for 10 to 15 minutes to calm your nervous mind. After 2 to 3 weeks of continuous meditation practice, you discover emotions and sensations in your body you never experienced before. The meditation practice type suitable in this context is the visualization meditation. This practice encourages you to create mental pictures in your mind of how you would love your life and yourself to be like.
Another method to tap into the power of your imagination is through writing. Write your detailed answer to this question: What is the most desirable scenario you would love to imagine whether in your career, relationship, education, personal growth or other areas?
Doing any of those practices can help you find your way back to your imagination. Throughout the process, don’t be surprised when your mind says: This doesn’t make any sense. You have to stick to what you do. You would be rejected and laughed at. No body is interested in your ideas. This is normal. The mind would always prefer to stick to the usual, comfortable and familiar way of doing things. Just observe, release and continue the meditative and reflective process.
