The Idea Behind Retirement

We live in a time where you see the media talks about safety, preparing for retirement, following rules and keeping our comfortable bubbles. It's so funny and silly listening to that bank commercial ad in radio stating that in 15 years of saving in the bank account, you get to save 3500 rials.

Is that really the human potential? Us, humans have been surpressed and put to believe that we are very small, scared, nervous and not capable to take care of ourselves.

Looking at the retirement idea, people working for 30 to 40 years and finally retire. What does it mean? That the human is doomed after 30 years of working? That we, humans have an expiry date after working?

The concept of retirement encourages laziness. It makes the person lay back and believe that he earned it because of the long years of working.

Many people who are not aware of the false ideas that the retirement sends to us, go through some consequences after retirement. Some face tragic disease. Others go through chronic depression. Why? Because all their lives they followed the rules. They did what they were told and finally retired.

After retirement, the person would ask. What have I done? How much time did I waste? What is my meaning in this life?

However, looking at the human potential, it's unlimited. We humans are free to create, to invent, to improve our work, to offer initiatives and connect. Whether it's contributing towards the local community, or starting a business, or collaborating with an organization, the options we have are unlimited.

Let's break this mental cycle of work to retire. Let's look at work as a passion, as something to contribute, as an initiative to offer. Not to please a boss, not to seek attention but to open doors for the humanity to make a difference in the world.
