Texting versus Talking
Communication has developed using different forms of media and technology. Nowadays you find people communicating mostly by their mobile phones. Styles like texting, written texting, audio messaging, video calls, live calling. Other forms as well like adding emojis, likes and so on.
Still with advances in technology today, it doesn’t replace the actual human face to face interaction. That is something else. It includes the body language cues, the exchange of energy, the impact of visual appearance, the eye contact and the indirect alignment happening between the two persons communicating.
Because we got used to this digital way of interacting, we think it covered our human need to interact. However I also notice an increasing gap of communication and people being more isolated and disconnected.
You see with texting or using those digital devices for our social interactions, something else is happening also. Chances for misunderstandings and wrong assumptions occur. You can easily go into the route of clash and conflict with the other person. Also the message is not fully and appropriately communicated. I notice only a small part being sent missing the whole picture scenario.
However when you use the live talking, whether on the phone or face to face, the message is communicated completely. Chances for doubts or errors are clarified straightaway because you are connected live with the other person. You can make sense what is happening and tune your communication to fit the context and the person as well.
So the next time you get upset after your communication, check on your communication medium. It is not always the other person. Probably the time and method to communicate need to be carefully reviewed if you want to have a better communication with the other person.
