Success in the Moment

There is this piece of information I learned today from Earl Nightingale’s speech in YouTube. It talks about our perception towards success. How can you perceive success to your advantage instead of criticizing, judging or comparing yourself with others.

Each one of us looks at success differently according to our unique world views and backgrounds. What Earl suggests is to closely look at your life. What is that thing that uniquely matters to you. Then when you realize it, you take small action steps to acheive that goal. Interestingly, here Earl points that success is actually realized in that small action step you are taking.

That is such a big mindset shift for me. Earlier, I used to think that success is when you completely acheived something whether it is a career change, increase in income, a fulfilling relationship or kids with excellent school grades. The problem with this mindset is it focuses on lack instead of enoughness. It makes you think you are not enough, not worthy and not capable unless you get that grade, promotion, new house or partner.

After listening to Earl’s speech, I found out it’s not the case. Success is actually in the journey itself when you manage to take that first baby step towards your dream. Whatever that baby step is for you like completing reading a book, balancing your work and personal life, blogging, reducing your expenses, starting that difficult conversation or opening up. That small action step is really the success you have been longing for. It confirms your ability to start, to break free, to go on your own terms, to deviate from the common route and to pick something that uniquely and personally matters to you.

This revolutionary success mindset reduces the heaviness we tend to feel if we didn’t achieve something. It grounds you in gratitude and satisfaction. It uplifts and inspires you to take the next baby step throughout your journey.
