Let go of yourself!

We take ourselves so seriously. We overthink what we did yesterday, what we will do tomorrow and what we need to do today. We stress about being almost perfect (little or no mistakes). We worry how the other person perceives us. What did I say. Was it appropriate. I shouldn’t have said that. Maybe I should call back. No it was not supposed to be that way. And on and on the cycle goes.

But what is it about yourself that make you stressed and worried all the time? Is it the strong feelings? Is it an old unrevisited beleif? Or probably the idea that things need to be in certain order and they are not? There could be many reasons.

When I remember the deathbed scenario, things start to shift. Watching a person suddenly die with or without a reason leaving behind whatever things and memories he or she was attached to. That person suddenly becomes alienated from everyone and everything. Suddenly the things you stressed yourself about become worthless. People whom you worried about, projects that took majority of your time, and the lifestyle you tried to maintain all become invaluable in that one moment. You really discover the true meaning of life when you think about your death.

Using the deathbed perspective to your advantage is key. If you want to let go of yourself and live life simply and humbly with minimum attachments, first keep this perspective running in your mind every time. Whenever you worry or overthink or repeat your mental worrying cycle, think: what if today is my last day living here. What will I be doing? Will I continue doing what I do today or I would rather change and do something else?

Second, keep prioritizing and reflecting on each and every scenario you pass through in your life. No event happen in your life accidently. Everything happens for a divine reason for you to grow, learn and reflect. Nothing in this short life is fixed. We keep changing and evolving all the time. What matters to you today? What are the things that lost value in your life and what are the things that are more important to you? I like this quote I heard once: when something in you dies, it means you are about to give birth to something new.

At the end, we matter and we don’t. We are something and nothing at the same time. We are here but we can be no where anytime sooner or later. We hide and isolate ourselves with our strong feelings but then we could be seen, noticed and discovered. Just let go of yourself, your worries, tensions and overthinking and go live your life. You could die any moment, any time with or without a reason. So what’s the point?
