Is it that simple?

The system around us taught us to specialize and to be very good and expert in one thing. It made us believe that to master a task, you gotta study 4 to 10 years in order to be specialized and expert.

That beleif although it has some benefits, many times it makes a person stuck and paralyzed in one spot. It signals you are not enough. You don’t know. You gotta learn more. You gotta read more before taking action.

This is what is called “the analysis paralysis”. You read. You analyze. You find more information. But then you end up not taking any action because you still beleive you need to learn more.

The mindset of perfectionsit also contributes to this scenario. When you want things to be so perfect and to conform exactly to your set of expectations, you would often be in a similar spot for long time.

What an illusion when you see a person studying and getting a certificate before practicing any single bit of the information learned. Then we complain why there are no jobs out there.

It is not just studying and graduating. It is how you use the information in your daily life. How you make the knowledge benefit you in the best way possible.

I was that person once. I beleived that in order to be specialized in something, you gotta study it well and get a certificate. But then later in life, I realized its not the case. It is the education and the experience of using the information.

To go unstuck and break the chains of this illusion, there are few simple steps we can take. First is after you get the knowledge of a task that interests you, go out there and start practicing and gaining the experience.

Second, when your mind wonders, doubts and wants to go back to the studying phase, stop and pause for a moment. Ask yourself: What is going on here? What am I really doubting? What stops me from taking action? Is it really the lack of information or is it something else?

Third, when you realize you can continue taking action, go do it and continue gaining the experience.

Fourth, when you reach a spot where you really lack the information and you need help, then yes go find the information or ask people who are familiar and experienced.

It is tricky to identify the time you can start taking action and the time you need to learn and study. Studying is an art in itself and if you give me a lifetime program, I am glad to spend it studying. But with studying, remember applying the information you gained in your day to day life to receive the best out of it.
