How to balance thinking and being?

Because of the life setup, we got used to the habit of thinking. We think of many things at the same time. We multi-think too. We think of our thoughts and we wonder what other people think too. Then we manoeuvre in thoughts. What if I did this, what would he think? What if I said this, could the conversation turn this way? And on and on the mental cycle keeps going.

But then I remember our human experiences. How are we living our lives? How do we experience our daily living fully? How can we be present throughout our human experiences? What a waste if you are busy in your head and missing to live your life.

Many relevant scenarios cross my mind now like: A couple with their toddler in a restaurant. The father is feeding the child ice cream and the mother is glued to her mobile phone with very minimum interaction or connection. Or when a father is trying to fix the situation of a crying child instead of just being there present and still. These examples show how we miss the point many times and forget to balance between thinking and being.

You don’t always have to think and break your head for every single situation you cross by. At many situations, you also have an opportunity to live and just be there present.

Your mind is very good at convincing you its not ok. You gotta do something to fix the situation. You gotta make the phone call. You must visit the relative. You have to talk to your boss about that situation. When you allow your mind to take over, you would find yourself eventually overwhelmed, stressed, burned out and tired.

I can’t forget those words I heard once from Joe Dispenza in one of the episodes: Your mind is like an animal. It just wants to wonder and run around here and there. You gotta train it, discipline it and make it sit down for some time daily. So that you gain an increased awareness and understanding of yourself including your thoughts and emotions.

So if you catch yourself in your head most of the times, come back to your body and current surrounding. What body senses you feel? What do you see in front of you? Who is the person sitting next to you? What is the temperature of the room you are in? Check on your breathing. What sounds you hear? Feel the object you hold in your hand. This practice would bring you back to living. It reminds you of your aliveness and human existence. It brings you back to your human experience and living life wholeheartedly and fully.
