From theory learning to experience learning!

The common learning that takes place in the society today is theory learning. We learn by reading text books and gain all the knowledge and information we need to know. Then you see students are tested whether they understood and memorized all that information in the form of a written test. If you pass the test, you go to the next level until you graduate. After graduation, you are considered to be an expert in that field because you read, understood and passed all the relevant exams.

If we turn our minds to experience learning for a moment, its quite different from theory learning. It requires you to go take action in the field to apply and practice the information you gained. Its like the information you read is only 20% and to learn the 60%, you gotta go out there and practice. That is what we call the experience learning.

Many confuse between theory learning and experience learning. They think that experience comes in a later stage and the most important thing is theory learning. However, the reality is theory is not fixed. From a situation to situation, its different. The market in your area is different from the market in my area. Theory is only basics. But when it comes to experience, its taking action and accepting the fact the knowledge we have is only basics.

When gaining the experience in whatever field you choose, there is a possibility of doing mistakes. This is another dilemma many are facing. We think that by theory learning, we know everything and we shouldn’t do mistakes or probably do only minor mistakes because we know the basics. But with the experience learning, doing mistakes is a must. In that perspective, people humbly take action, do the homework and when they discover the mistakes happened, they accept them with grace and learn from them.

When we see people complain. No jobs out there. Many graduates and fewer jobs, they confuse the fact that the theory learned and the certificate gained is not everything. Its only a small part of the learning efficiency formula. Equipping the theory with experience learning by taking action regularly and practicing what we learned, that could diminish the illusions we were made to beleive about theory learning.

If you are in that mental box, remember theory is theory. To understand fully the whole picture, practice that theory with curiorisity and humility. Take action regularly and make it your personal quest. That is what we call experiential living. live by experience. Everything you do is your chance to gain experience. Turn your life into an experiential living. You are living here to experience fully the life given to you. Once you get used to this transformative way of learning, you will notice your life shifting to another interesting level.
