Fearless When Swimming
With lots of fear and nervousness I had in the water, I notice that consistent action taking gradually reduces that fear level.
The first time I swam towards the deep water, my heart was pumping so fast and my breathing was shallow. I kept screaming to my coach: Please come. Don’t leave me. Stay near me. Please.
For the next time, although I was still nervous and scared, my focus was on stilling and calming my breaths. I felt the fear was in the center of my belly but I focused on being relaxed, calm and efficient when swimming with following my coach’s instructions.
For the last two swimming lessons, my time spent in the deep water increased. Still the fear is there but reduced and buffered to a greater extent. It became easier for me to go straight to the deep water. My panic and nervousness reduced. I developed trust with myself and the water. Now I jump into the deep end and I swim there using different positions too.
Finally, after going through this amazing learning experience, I realize that our fear from the water is only something we create in our minds. It is not real. Once you learn all the swimming techniques and continue practicing, you would find yourself relaxed in the water, swimming, kicking and efficiently moving your hands and legs.
