What a home routine look like?

We live in our homes. We go to work, do our daily activities and come back to our homes. Someone might wonder: What a home routine looks like? Well at home, you get to do many things from cleaning, decluttering to doing the laundry, cooking, doing the dishes and sorting out the clothes.

As a working mother, its not that simple to juggle between a regular-job working and doing home-related tasks at the same time. You need a system and a structure to be able to do all of that.

First, let us have a look at a daily routine throughout the week. It starts with putting the dishes away, putting clothes into the washing machine and preparing breakfast for the kids. After breakfast, I multi-task between preparing for work, making the bed and putting the clothes away.

Later in the evening after work, it is sorting out the clothes. I hate the ironing task. So it is the laundry service to do the job for me every 3 days once. Then comes the dinner cooking or ordering meals from outside if I am too tired. What helps me a lot here is having a meal plan at the beginning of every week. Sometimes I follow it and sometimes I don’t.

Later before bedtime, it is putting the dirty dishes into the dishwasher, folding the clean clothes and arrange them in the cupboards and swiping and cleaning the surfaces and floor of the kitchen.

Of course the whole house cleaning including the toilets, floors, changing bedsheets and sophas happen during the weekend. Definitely with a full-time housemaid around, these tasks would be done daily. But of course not every family prefer this set-up and some prefer to maintain the secrecy and privacy of the home and not allow an external person to enter.

The thing that personally helps me to adapt to a home routine is first using full automatic machines like dishwasher and laundry washing machine. When these machines are fully automatic, it relieves you from the manual tasks like drying the dishes or squeezing the water out of the washed clothes.

Second is doing bit by bit tasks in the morning and in the evening. I noticed if you leave the dishes and the laundry to double up, it becomes hectic later and time consuming to do them all. But if you do a bit every time you enter the kitchen and laundry corner, it becomes easier and quicker.

At the end, it is nice to be in charge of the routines in your home where you know where the ingredients are kept and how the clothes are organized. But it gets tricky sometimes when sudden tasks come in between like taking your child to the dentist or entertaining a guest.
