The Hospital Environment

Earlier upon arrival at the hospital, there was this home sick feeling, missing home and family.

The routines were changed. Suddenly we need to share our private space and comfort with other patients. Our meals’ preferences also need to be adjusted to adopt to the hospital meals.

Especially for us women where we feel most comfortable in the serene and privacy of our homes, it gets inconvenient at times when the hospital ward and corridors are crowded with men.

Now after almost 1 month since we got admitted in hospital, there is a sense of community and belonging in the ward. We met other patients and their mothers. Because of the prolonged stay in the hospital, we created a strong bond and relationship.

Because of that, it feels like home in the hospital. We have our meals together, chat and engage in informative conversations and express to each other our kids’ updates, concerns, worries and reliefs.

So whenever you feel isolated, depressed or lonely when admitted in hospital for a period of time, look around you. Tune in. Connect with others around you. Dare to ask how they are doing and what they are up to. And check for yourself the difference.
