The power of living a modest life!

We hear conversations about minimalism, living a modest life and decluttering our environment. In our current system set-up with the increasing of products advertising and marketing, you can be attracted and pulled to want things you don’t need.

But what is a modest life? It means living life satisfied with what you have and not allowing other distractions from friends and family to influence the way you live your life.

For instance, a common trait I notice is the need to upgrade our belongings such as our mobile phones, cars, home furniture, clothes, shoes and other items whether you need or don’t. Just upgrade and change to the latest trending brands. This trait although brings temporary satisfaction, it doesn’t really fulfil the emptiness that we humans feel.

We have a tendency to want more. We want to do many things at the same time and if we can’t do it all, we complain and perceive ourselves as less and not enough.

However, living a modest life can minimize this and reduce the tension and pressure of wanting more and more. Let us think about this for a minute. What if we have a possibility to live a modest life? What if we accept coming down from the top? What if we take the humbleness and humility to go from a 2 floor villa house to a 1 floor home of 3 bedrooms if it suits our families?

Thinking in this way can show you what you truly need in the moment and the things you can let go from your life.

Unfortunately we are pressurized by the society and culture to live in a certain way. Families live isolated and divided. Most of the couples live seperately in rented or owned homes. The colleges and universities force families to purchase individual cars for their teenagers. The sellers convince us of quality regardless of how much we pay. The marketing ads we see tell the families to continue buying and spending whether you need or don’t.

Reflecting on this continuously and block the noise around us can help us live a less stressful life and identify the illusions we were made to believe.
