Excitement versus Boredom
Emotions are something we go through on a daily basis. They are mixed up with the kind of thoughts we think and how we process and interpret them.
The two common emotions that crossed my mind are excitement and boredom. But what are they?
Excitement is an emotion you feel for many reasons like when you are happy, when you are about to start a new venture, when you start a new chapter in life, when you hear happy news from your friend or when spending quality time with family members.
Coming to boredom, it is an emotion you feel when you are doing the same thing for ages, when you haven’t dared to experiment a new idea, when you are sitting indoors for long time or when you lose interest in something.
Both the emotions carry wise messages for us to grasp, reflect and learn. If you ignore your emotion, you lose an opportunity of learning and growing. For example, boredom allows your brain to drift of, wonder, day dream and get curious about new ideas. Excitement switches on a spark inside you and encourages you to stand up, move around, get out and creatively do activities you like.
Boredom sometimes tells you: You are not on the right path. Look for a different direction. Explore another venture. While excitement often tells you: Yes. That’s it. That’s what I want to do. I got it. I can’t wait to start.
You may also reflect on those emotions using the context of time. If you see the time is so still and you are counting the hours and minutes barely to finish whatever it is you are doing, then you are extremely bored. But if you are excitedly engaged in an activity, the time just passes by so quickly without you feeling it, then you are so into doing your thing, you love it, you are doing it for many hours and it just fills you up.
It is interesting to reflect on your emotions and find your mental interpretations and processing behind it. At the end, our emotions are there to guide us through our way in life and are not to be ignored, suppressed or buried. Enjoy reflecting on your emotions and thoughts.
