Dressing Moment

With the halo pelvic traction treatment that my son is treated with, he needs to go through daily dressing to prevent pin site infection.

The dressing is around his head (six pin sites) and around his pelvic area (four pin sites).

The moment he knows its dressing time; he leaves his phone and avoids all kinds of distraction.

After one month of being admitted in hospital, still each time he goes through dressing, it hurts especially around his pelvic area. I guess because the pins have been drilled deep inside his pelvic bone.

Each time the nurse starts cleaning the pin site area, he says: Loose. Not hard. Loose. But with all the patience he has got, still he can’t help it but cry and tear.

He holds both my hands during dressing. He presses and squeezes my hands tightly when it hurts badly.

I always tell myself: It will get better next time. But honestly, each time of dressing, it hurts, and it breaks my heart to see him go through all that pain.
