An Inner and Outer Journey
With or without our knowing, we have got an inner and outer journey in our life experiences. An inner journey is really whatever is happening inside yourself when you cross through situations. This includes your thoughts, emotions and how you process them.
An outer journey is your external expression in the world. What is it you do? What activities you daily practice? How do you present yourself to the world? How do you express yourself? What conversations you have? What interests and preferences that most appeal to you? What your daily routines look like? Answering these questions can give you an idea of your outer journey.
From personal observation, I notice a mismatch between the inner and outer journey. Majority of people go on with their lives just to survive and move on. Their internal world is: I am tired. I can’t wait for the weekend to arrive. The years are many till my retirement. Or this is not what I really want to do but I have no choice.
Such an unprocessed and unchecked inner perspective would lead the person to take actions and do activities in the outer world that don’t really resonate with his or her truth. It is very sad to reach the end of your life and realize you haven’t really lived it.
So if you want to know whether you are living a fulfilling and meaningful life, check on your inner journey first. Get to know yourself. Both your weaknesses and strengths. What about your thoughts and emotions? What fills you up? What upsets you? Which environment you find yourself thriving in? What gets your attention? What activities that appeal to you and the ones that don’t?
After that, have a look at your outer journey. What are you doing? Do your actions match up with your inner world? Do your conversations express from the depth of your heart and pure intentions? In whatever area you choose to look at, whether it is family, career, health, education, parenting, personal growth or others, you get to reflect and find out the alignment between your inner and outer journey.
At the end, this is a lifetime process. It doesn’t matter where you are in life. How old are you. Or what happened to you. What matters is today. What you decide to do today. That itself empowers you to take actions that most resonate with your truest intentions and heartful desires.
