Reflections on Anxiety and Worry
You may think: it is no big deal. We all worry. We all get frustrated and anxious. It doesn’t matter. It is normal. It is ok. Just ignore it. Let it go. Move on. Or suppress it.
Then you wonder: Is it worth it? All the worries and overthinking? What matters and what doesn’t in this field? How did anxiety started anyway?
There are levels of anxiety and worry. Some worry but know how to cope with it and face it. Others who are not aware of it allow it to grow and control their lives.
Examples of this are: A person worried all the time about the safety and wellbeing of the kids. Someone thinks about work all the time and is anxious of when to finish work. A person worried about life in general and can’t dare to get outside of home thinking that something bad might happen. These are different levels of anxiety expressed by different individuals.
Anxiety just shows how weak and vulnerable we humans are. When anxiety crosses my mind, I remember this recite from the Holy Book of Quran: The human being was created weak. Because of that, Allah wants to make our living experiences on this earth lighter and simple by showing us the enlightened path.
I think with the recent events happened like the pandemic, lock-down and getting vaccinated contributed a lot towards our anxiety and worrying. Nowadays, with the simplest symptoms like flu, cough and fever, people avoid meeting each-other and predict the worst thing can happen.
It is hard to cross through such traumatizing events. Some might say: We forgot about it. It is history. We got over it. But actually it is not. The side effects are still there. And if we are not bold enough, daring enough and brave enough, the anxiety would drag us to places we never wish anyone to go there.
