Feeling empty and lost?

Sometimes in life you cross through situations where you just feel lost, empty and not sure what is it you wanna do with your life. That feeling happens when you realize harsh truths about your life. When you haven’t really done what you are supposed to be doing. When your personal identity doesn’t align with your heartfelt truth. Or when you have teared down all the false components you have built in your life and wanna start all over again.

It is not easy to cross through such a situation. You feel like you don’t have your footing anymore. For a second, you see yourself as nothing, worthless and lacking meaning and purpose. Then you enter that isolation and disconnection mode where the human connections you had earlier become less or minor. Then you feel lonely, depressed and probably psychologically tired.

This is the time you need to pay extra attention to your psychological needs. This state is considered to be a vulnerable and sensitive one. This is where you need to be aware of the kind of people you spend time with, the type of activities you do, how you refuel your daily energy and how you take care of yourself.

Another thought that crosses my mind in such a context is the generation of new ideas to inspire you to move to the next phase in your life. It can be tempting or attractive to stay in that dark place, complain, blame, judge and find all the reasons how this happened to you. But doing that would not take you out of emptiness and loss. Instead it would drag you down even more there and complicate your situation more.

The way to get out is flip your mind the other way round and find ideas to change your mindset, context, environment and the activities you daily do. It is ok to feel scared, uncomfortable, anxious, worried and nervous. Our minds have been created with a feature to protect us from danger and risk. But if it does it excessively, you would be stuck in that phase and paralyzed. I like this quote I learned from Seth Godin when he said: You feel scared, anxious and uncomfortable but you do it anyway.

Also feeling empty and lost reminds me of our roots and where we come from. Actually it is good to experience and observe this feeling because it encourages you to reflect on what you are doing, where you are going and what are your intentions. You might be sure that this is what you are meant to be doing but going back and reassess your heartfelt intentions and motivations could give you a small clue of your life direction today and if it is what you truly wanna continue doing.

Lastly I won’t finish writing this post because it is something I personally experience today and it has lots of mix feelings and confusing thoughts. Enjoy reflecting and processing this feeling and thought.
