Time Blocking

Time blocking is a concept I learned from Robin Sharma. It is a deliberate action with managing your time. It is a practice where you assign specific blocks of your time slots to accomplish specific tasks you choose to do throughout your days.

What I notice with this practice is that is disciplines you to the way you handle your time. It reduces your time wasting habit and focuses you on achieving the tasks that are most important to you.

I really like the focus and dedication that comes with this practice. It raises the value of your precious time and shows you the work that is more valuable and the task that is just a waste of time.

Robin Sharma recommends to practice time blocking at the begining of the week. But to me, I like practicing it daily first thing in the morning before I resume my daily activities. I do this because I notice myself to easily drift away with daily distractions and doing time blocking first thing in the morning brings me back to my priorities and the activities that are most important to me.

So now you might ask: How do I do time blocking? Well first in your journal or calendar, write down the most important activities you need to do for the day.

After that, assign specific blocks of time for each activity. Let us say your morning routine, from 5 to 6 am, your project work, from 8 to 12 pm and so on.

Lastly, this practice empowers you and develops a strong relationship between you and your time. By the way, when doing this practice, there would be a group of people who would be offended by you because of your concentration and discipline. Don’t get triggered by this group because not everyone knows the value of time and the amazing feeling when you get your work done.
